A brief history of HIA

Haiti International Alliance was founded by Dr. Jean Rigaud Amilcar Antoine and his wife, Melande Heriveaux Antoine.
In June of 1985, Dr. Antoine and his wife Melande made their first trip to United States from Haiti. Sponsored by the late Russell D. Bryant, former director of Monadnock Bible Conference in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Both Dr. Antoine and Melande were invited to attend the Monadnock Bible Institute in order to be trained in English as a second language, management, and discipleship.
After his training, Dr. Antoine helped to develop and served as Director of the Bethany Project in Port au Prince, Haiti. He is a co-founder of Monadnock Bridge Builders and Servants for Haiti. Both of which coordinated short-term humanitarian work trips and supported various ministries and orphanages throughout the nation of Haiti.
In response to a vision put in their hearts, Dr. Antoine and Melande invited some friends to think about starting a non-profit organization. After much thought and prayer, Pastor Steven McClelland and Judy Evans accepted their invitation and joined Dr. Antoine and Melande to start Haiti International Alliance in 2010. Later David and Anne-Marie Murch and Gerry and Stephanie Gelinas also joined them to complete the executive board of directors.
Dr. Antoine and his wife Melande are committed to serve people in Haiti. They both were born there and raised their children there. Since June 1975, Haiti has been suffering from a drought so severe that the shortage of food caused the people to eat their seed stock which would normally be used for future planting. Several natural disasters have devastated Haiti. Recently, the earthquakes in 2010 and the floods and hurricanes most notably in 2004 and 2016, have made life become more difficult. Famine, due to food shortages caused by many years of drought, has affected most of the country’s 11 million citizens.
